A stop at Season 4 is next with my TFTC episode revisit. This time I take a look at "Maniac at Large".
The episode is basically about a nervous and very paranoid librarian that gets so consumed with her paranoia that she ends up killing the head librarian out of fear. Of course her paranoia isn't helped by the newspaper headlines, false alarms and dealing with eccentric library patrons/security guards. The whole story about the killer feels like such a red herring when it's really about Blythe Danner getting so worried and paranoid that she ends up killing.
I think it's a good episode. I don't know if I'd say it's top-tier from Season 4, but it's good. When you think about it, the episode feels more like a psychological study than a mystery about a killer. Maybe that's the point of the episode.

I remember this one being so-so but it's been so long since I last watched it I feel it needs a rewatch for me to pass fair judgment.

The idea I got in the end was that she was the actual killer. A pretty nice twist and one of few episodes where the antagonist (if she was the antagonist indeed) doesn't get her just deserts in the end. This episode may have inspired the Night Visions episode Quiet Please which has a similar feel and similar twist ending, except that it takes place outdoors. In all, a decent, if not one of the best, episodes from Season 4.
