A few weeks ago, I watched a compilation video about references of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and Freddy Krueger, two clips that stood out to me because they were from superhero films. It got me thinking if there are any superhero and comic book films that had ever referenced any horror movies.
The ones that I can think of (and the two of them I've seen in the video are in this little list) are:
1. Batman (1989) - When Vicki and Alex were looking at the few exhibits of what Bruce Wayne obtained while wandering around in his house during the party, Alex says about one of the exhibits, "Check this out. He must have been King of the Wicker People." This is an obvious reference to The Wicker Man (1973). I've always found that line hilarious! Lol! If you look closely at Bruce's face, who was secretly behind them, he even found the joke funny.
2. Deadpool (2016) - When Weasel says to Wade that he looked liked Freddy Krueger had face-fucked the topographical map of Utah. This was also in the first trailer. LOL!!!!!!! This is obviously due to Wade looking similar to Freddy in appearance since Freddy is a burn victim. In some cases in the Marvel Comics, Wade is drawn like a burn victim which is the look they went for the films. Perhaps, Weasel loves watching A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
3. Logan (2017) - Another ANOES reference. When the main villain is kind of taunting Logan in the back seat of his car in saying that some incident occurred involving claws and mentioned Freddy Krueger. Even in that universe, somebody seems to kind of see the connection between Wolverine and Freddy Krueger in terms of their ever-sharp weapons of choice.
4. Justice League (2017) - When Victor Stone/Cyborg and Barry Allen/The Flash were digging up Clark's corpse and Barry says that this is like the film, Pet Sematary (1989). My mother and I laughed at that. And thinking about it, he's absolutely right. That situation is exactly like that film because the notion of digging up a deceased person or animal in order to bring them back to life for some reason is basically the whole plot behind PS.
Do you guys know of any other superhero films that had referenced horror films in any way?

I don't know if the design was an intentional nod, but the look of Ebony Maw in Avengers: Infinity War for some reason reminds me of the Crypt Keeper. I got to wonder if it may have been a subtle nod to Crypty.

I had been busy due to the holidays, doing my freelance work, and I recently was going through a serious illness. I'm mostly better now. I have seen a few clips of IW and I absolutely agree about how some of the creatures look like ole' Crypty. Plus, metaphorically speaking, since the Crypt Keeper is a half-dead being and revolves around the macabre, I think the creatures, other than Thanos, represent death in IW.

No worries, hope you're feeling better. I've been sick myself, getting over a bad cough and sore throat and been coughing up phlegm galore. I hate Winter.
I didn't even think about that but that's a smart way to look at it. Perhaps the look of Ebony Maw may been intended to be a subtle nod to Crypty and also be something of a death figure.

I've been having serious aches mostly on the right side of my body(especially leg), headaches, and "brought back up" my dinner a few times if you know what I mean. The funny thing is, it started after I had eated a meal from Sonic. My mother and brother also ate from Sonic but they didn't get as sick as me. I'm still wondering what it was that truly made me sick. I've been taking medicine and drinking water and juice. After a few days, I was able to eat something without getting nauseous, though I still have an "empty" feeling in my stomach. Despite that, I think I'm 98% better now. But I'm sorry that you've been sick, too. The cold ain't no joke! A bad cough, sore throat, and phlegm are beyond awful. Yes, the Winter is absolutely harsh. Ironically, though, I still call it my favorite season because when it snows, it puts me at ease, like rain. Still, I hope you're feeling better, too. Drink plenty of fluids, especially orange juice. I think that helps, too. Back to the topic, yes, Ebony Maw looks damn-near similar to Crypty. Yeesh! Since he's one of Thanos' minions, he's most likely a death figure.

Are you prone to getting sick in cold weather? I get sick VERY easily when it's cold, especially when cold air hits my exposed throat. I find every year when it's Winter I always get sick and get a cough and sore throat.
I also thought in Avengers: Age Of Ultron in the scene where the twins first meet Ultron he kinda resembled Crypty a bit the way he was in the chair and had the cloak over him. Got to wonder if that was a slight homage. I get the impression a lot of the MCU crew must be Horror fans.

I tend to get sick specifically during Spring, Autumn, and Winter if I'm not being careful in keeping my health good. This year, it's been a while since I became sick due to the Winter. Especially since I had decided to stop taking a vaccination shot and the reason for this is because I keep hearing people who have gotten the shot get even sicker or worse. No joke. And it doesn't help that they aggressively keep pushing vaccination shots onto people. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the MCU crew are Horror fans. We know that the Robot Chicken crew are.

I've never gotten a vaccination shot and am hesitant to as I too have heard the Horror stories of people who took them and were all the worse for it, which has made me reluctant to take one, myself. It's amazing how some medicines and remedies end up making you either worse than before or they treat one thing while giving you scores of others.
The MCU definitely seems to toy with the Horror genre quite a bit and it may only be a matter of time before we get a full-fledged Horror film from them, someday. Man-Thing is such a prime candidate for an MCU Phase 4 film, he's long overdue for a good movie after the awful made for TV movie he got years ago.

When it comes down to it, it's all about money for these doctors, health care officials, and especially, the pharmaceutical companies. I've heard that natural remedies are the best at treating illnesses like the cold and flu. I agree. They've been flirting with Horror a little bit and I think it's time they start going into that territory with some of their films. Man-Thing is a great start! But, knowing that Marvel is owned by Disney, I don't think that'll happen. I'll be shocked if it does but knowing how fucking controlling and greedy Disney is, I don't see it happening, unfortunately.

That's what I usually seek out. My experiences most of the time with natural remedies more often than not has helped and I like to stick with what works.
Disney is so obsessed with preserving their family-friendly image, but a lot of their earlier work was very dark and they definitely had a serious Horror bent with a lot of their older movies. It's a shame how nowadays with their direction they're steering away from that. Disney really needs to loosen up these days. I'd love to see the MCU go in a more hard Horror direction and maybe even have a Horror-themed offshoot series that still exists in the main core MCU canon. Have the Horror-oriented MCU characters like Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, Morbius, Blade, etc.

They want to be as "family friendly" as possible.

Which is unfortunate. I can only hope they won't be neutering Deadpool, hearing about the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 that's coming out has me worried they'll try to neuter him and make his and his films more family-friendly. It was so refreshing how the first two Deadpool films were a hard R and allowed the character to be as vulgar, crass and violent as can be, which is how he should be. A PG-13, family-friendly version of him just doesn't sit right. It's unfortunate how Venom went the same route when it was supposed to be rated R and the studio got cold feet and made it PG-13 just to rake in some extra cash.

They'll try to neuter Deadpool. And if the abysmal opening of the PG-13 rated Once Upon A Deadpool is any indication, PG-13 and Deadpool DON'T MIX!!!!!!! And in case you haven't noticed yet, my friend, due to the way Disney had seriously fucked up the Star Wars franchise, don't be surprised when the Marvel films also start going bad. As for Venom, I was severely disappointed that it wasn't R. I was actually so upset that I was downright depressed because it's so frustrating that a lot of these films that were originally aimed at adult audiences are being censored for the sake of greed. And to this day, I still haven't seen that film despite hearing how successful it is and I probably won't. It's getting to a point where I don't care anymore.

I'm honestly glad OUAD isn't doing well, perhaps it'll send the message to Disney that audiences and fans don't want Deadpool to be PG-13 and want him to be as vulgar, crass and uncensored as possible. There's no reason at all there can't be a branch of Marvel films aimed at adult audiences and where characters like Deadpool can be as vulgar and R-rated as possible. PG-13 and Deadpool is such a bad combination and a recipe for a commercial failure. Sadly it seems we'll probably never get to see the R-rated version of Venom and all the moreso because with how the film sets up a sequel and a certain other character who's set up who also wouldn't work well with the limits of a PG-13 rating.

Indeed. But, I'm not holding my breath. I don't trust Disney at all and they still might try to keep Deadpool PG-13 to the point where he becomes box office poison. A PG-13 rating is the kiss of death for a film that's all about Deadpool and for that matter, The Terminator(just look at those last two films). To me, Deadpool has already lost his balls and credibility in making a PG-13 rated Christmas movie that nobody in their right mind asked for. I'm still very bitter about the Venom movie situation to the point where I don't even want to talk about it. Sony has no balls and I've almost become resigned to the fact that we'll never see an R rated Venom movie. They shouldn't have initially said that the film was aimed at adults since they ended up lowering the rating at the last minute.
