I guess we'll see come October how well Joker fares. I'm skeptical about aspects of the trailer, but at the same time I'm truly looking forward to finally seeing a proper R-rated cinematic version of the character and am hopeful it's success will lead to more R-rated comic book films and the more hard-edged characters getting their due. Right on! I genuinely hope that it's at least a decent film.

I feel in some ways we have yet to get a definitive live-action Joker as he's always been somewhat held back due to the PG-13 rating, so to have him finally unrestrained will be very refreshing. Much like how with Logan we finally got to see Wolverine no longer held back by a PG-13 rating.

We've had excellent portrayals of The Joker before between Mark Hamill in TAS and Heath Ledger's outstanding turn in The Dark Knight, but to finally get an unbound Joker who can be as nasty as can be will be refreshing. Reading some of the more graphic comics he can be such a complete bastard, especially in The Killing Joke and the 2008 Joker graphic novel.

Even though Joaquin Phoenix is seemingly playing a more sympathetic version of the character, The Joker is a DESPICABLE, VILE, EVIL PIECE OF SHIT. It's about time that he should be unleashed more onscreen.

I wonder just how much of the general public is aware of what a truly nasty villain The Joker is in so many of the comics? Reading some of the comics, you wonder how he's ever gotten approval to be in kids' animated series. It reminds me in a Batman/Punisher comic crossover when The Punisher nearly killed Joker only to be stopped by Batman. In a way that was actually frustrating to read, since Joker arguably truly deserves it.

Sheesh!!!

If Batman ever killed Joker be it intentional or by accident, he'd arguably be pretty justified when one considers the horrific crimes Joker has committed.

It's frustrating in a way how Batman continues to let him live. I get not wanting to sink to his level, but with someone like him you sometimes don't have a choice.

I'd like to see a comic where Batman finally has enough and decides to kill Joker, and then struggles with the aftermath. I'm honestly surprised that hasn't been done.

Now, that's a Batman comic book story I would love to read. And if done right, it would be one of the greatest Batman stories ever told.

It'd be refreshing too, as it gets unbelievable overtime to think Batman is able to successfully avoid killing every single time. One of the things that makes him such a compelling character are his human and relatable flaws, and for him to always be so successful at never killing and always managing to apprehend villains like The Joker without ever using lethal force gets unbelievable after a while.

RIGHT! I mean, even Batman can break like any other human being. He's not this overpowered, ultra perfect, godly type character a lot of people are trying to make him out to be. As you said, the things that makes him so compelling are his human and relatable flaws. There have been times where he felt vulnerable and hopeless. There are times where he needed help from others. There are times where he needed to be reminded of why he does what he does. In some of these types of stories, they tend to be some of the best Batman stories because it adds more depth to the character and endears the character to readers. So, a story where Batman finally killing The Joker and dealing with the aftermath of it would be a compelling and thought-provoking story.
