Shoot to Kill(1988) Is another good one that is rarely mentioned. More of a thriller than an action film but good movie with Sidney Poitier and Tom Berenger

In general I definitely tend to gravitate much more to older films because they have a certain realism to them that a lot of films these days just lack. I still enjoy newer films and am a fan of the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and MonsterVerse, but there's a real magic and organic quality that many pre-New Millennium films have you just don't get in many films made after the end of the 90s.

Absolutely. I have nothing against those who enjoy the Marvel films but for me personally they aren’t for me. The types of films I really love are ironically the ones that they don’t really make anymore. I’m also a classic film buff too. But I have to say there are t that many films in the new millennium that I really loved. There are some that I have enjoyed and I think are well made but nothing like pre 2000

I definitely think too much CGI hurts a lot of modern films. Used in moderation it's fine, which it was back in the 90s, but when it's too much to the point a film starts feeling more like a video game cutscene, that affects it for me.

Yes absolutely. I also think there is a lack of originality in modern films.

It's why I find CGI much more effective in movies like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park. It was only used for effects that were too difficult or outright impossible to do practically, and the preference for practical effects was still there whenever possible. These days it's much too abundant and it often comes as the cost of the story. There's some films that are so CGI-heavy it actually gets tiresome to watch.

Yes. There are some films that still pay homage to 80’s-90’s films. One particular producer Dallas Sonnier is still making those type of films independently like BoneTomahawk, Brawl on Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across Concrete

It's good to know there's people in the industry who want to keep it practical. Too much CGI makes a film feel very artificial for me. It's particularly annoying when it affects Horror and Action films.

I just rewatched In the Line of Fire(1993) which is one of my favorites. I remember my grandfather took me to see it and we would always watch it at least one a year when he was alive. They don’t make action/thrillers like that anymore. Action movies that are smart and well written/acted

I've been watching some 80s/90s-era Action films myself lately. Last night I watched Marked For Death and Death Warrant back to back. I miss the days of old-school Action films like that, ones that had practical stuntwork and such. Gives them so much more realism and impact than to make them a non-stop CGIfest which is what you see so much of these days.

Absolutely. I enjoyed those Seagal/Van Damme films too. Hard to Kill and Bloodsport especially

My favorite Seagal and Van Damme films respectively are Out For Justice and Hard Target. The latter got a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release that actually restores some of the more violent footage and it was awesome to see. The kind of oood old-fashioned hard-edged meat and potatoes Action film that just doesn't get made today, anymore.
I find today I'm numb to so many CGI-heavy films, which start feeling artificial and cartoonish. It feels refreshing to re-visit older films where there's so much practical in-camera effects and stunt work.

Those are good ones. I miss those action films instead of the cgi heavy nonsense we get today

Same here. It's a shame back then we didn't get an ensemble film like The Expendables back in the 90s or even early 2000s before the big-league Action stars got too old. The Expendables was a good idea but definitely happened 10-15 years too late after the fact.
As much as I've enjoyed the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe I find I'm so burnt out and fatigued on CGI-heavy films. I saw the Doctor Strange sequel and while not a bad movie, the constant use of CGI made me long for the 80s and 90s era.
