I'm kind of surprised Die Hard didn't get a toyline back around the late 80s or early 90s, it was certainly popular enough. I agree. And that goes for John Carpenter's The Thing, Beverly Hills Cop, and Lethal Weapon.

Say, did y'all see The Suicide Squad trailer? That looks hilarious and surprisingly good.
I know I may be talking so soon and probably getting my hopes up, but I think that this film, Zach Snyder's Justice League, and Mortal Kombat are ushering in the return of R rated blockbusters that audiences, especially older audiences can enjoy.

I'll be sure to check out The Suicide Squad trailer. From what I've heard it's shaping up to be much better than the 2016 film which wasn't very good at all. It still blows my mind somebody thought making a PG-13, family-friendly Suicide Squad movie was a good idea.

Making the 2016 version rated PG-13 when it was initially shot with the intention of making it rated R was RIDICULOUS. Hopefully, this film is decent. Though, it looks to be ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS. It's basically Deadpool times 10. Lol!

It seems sadly there's no plans for the original R-rated version of Suicide Squad to ever see the light of day. Seeing it back in 2016 it was painfully evident it was badly butchered and chopped up by the studio, and largely due to the negative reception Batman v Superman got for being too dark.

I feel the 80’s-90’s were the golden age of those R Rated Studio Films. Whether it was action horror or thrillers. The past 20 years or so the studio films have mainly been of pg 13 superhero movies. I have nothing against family friendly movies I feel they’re important obviously for younger audiences but I do miss those R rated movies if that era. I Mean it’s not like they didn’t make money. Sadly Hollywood is pretty much a joke now run by corporations and social media practically.

R-rated films were making something of a comeback over the past few years but the pandemic has unfortunately put a stop to so much. But I do think there is an interest and even demand for R-rated and edgier films by much of the general public. When I went to see the new Mortal Kombat a few weeks ago, the early shows were all totally sold out and I had to catch a later one. My theater wasn't exactly packed due to social distancing, but there was a sizable number of people in attendance and they all reacted very positively to the film.

One thing I hate about today is digital blood/gore, which always immediately puts me off and takes away from the impact. I miss the Tom Savini era with in-camera blood and gore effects. Gives it so much more power and impact. I miss practical effects in general, which really feels like a lost art form in a lot of ways.

Absolutely!!! I loved practical effects and hate cgi. Speaking of Tom Savini have you ever see The prowler(1981)? Underrated slasher and I think it’s Tom Savini’s best work

I've seen it and it definitely has some of his best work. He's also done excellent work in films like Maniac, Day Of The Dead, Creepshow, The Burning and Friday The 13th. His gore effects don't even look like effects but actual bloodshed.
That's another reason I enjoy older films so much. Even with films like Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 with their excellent CGI, there was still the co-existance and preference of in-camera practical effects and CGI was only used when absolutely necessary when practical effects were impossible for certain types of effects. These days so much is totally digital and there's no real magic.

Yup I just watch older films and tv shows for many reasons but mainly because the quality is better IMO.

I grew up watching mainly films from the 80s and 90s and also a good amount from the 70s, so naturally my preference is for that and films from that era are also more influential for me.

Yup I’m also a classic film buff. The original King Kong, Forbidden Planet, Planet of the Apes were always on when I was a kid. But growing up in the 80’s and 90’s I loved action films like Die Hard, Terminator, Point Break, Speed, etc

I'm a fan of those films too and actually watched Speed for the first time not too long ago. Can't believe it took me so long to see it, awesome movie. Even though it's not extremely violent, it still has an edge to it lacking from so many Action films today.
