Yeah, you're right about that. I think once 1997 came around and the hour-long TV shows like Oz started to happen, TFTC just disappeared.

I have no idea if HBO is embarrassed by the show or what, but given it's immense popularity, the acclaim it got and the A-list talent it attracted during it's run, you'd think it'd be held in a far higher regard.

Yeah. That's just really odd that HBO hadn't given this show more exposure in recent years by maybe putting it on HBO Go or any of their streaming services.

TFTC was one of HBO's most popular shows and arguably a driving force for the network back then. So sad to see it treated like an unwanted stepchild.

That's disrespectful and insulting for HBO to basically cast TFTC to the side! Especially knowing that there are many fans who STILL LOVE this show! Hell, most of the shows that they have now are nowhere near the quality and as exciting as TFTC! TFTC kept you enthralled and wanting more. At least we have DVDs and YouTube.

It reminds me of how the studios and execs were often embarrassed by the Horror films they churned out back in the day. Like Paramount being ashamed of the Friday The 13th series despite how popular and successful they were back then, the studio was still embarrassed by the stigma of the series and never really gave it the proper respect it deserved inspite of the success. It's so ungrateful and disrespectful. It's one thing if the studio heads don't care for the genre, but damn it, show respect and gratitude for something that's essentially paying for your rent and bills.

It's disrespectful AF for studios to basically shy away from the horror films they produced in the past that has helped them stay afloat. Hell, horror films and TV shows nowadays are arguably some of the main types of films and shows that are keeping the entertainment industry afloat! If you think about it, horror is almost always the go-to genre to make a film or show out of, and yet Hollyweird studios and executives have the nerve to dismiss the genre.

So true. There's Horror films that practically saved film studios from going kaput, which was the case with Universal and their monster movies back in the 30s and 40s, and New Line Cinema would've never been if not for their Horror films including ANOES. New Line has never been called The House That Freddy Built for no good reason. No idea if HBO would've gone under if not for TFTC, but I'd wager it was a major driving force for them back then and probably resulted in a good-sized amount of ratings for the network which in turn kept it thriving.
I'm just glad we have labels like Scream Factory that care about genre films and treat them with the proper respect. Seeing as Scream recently struck a deal with WB which owns TFTC, I'm hopeful someday they may get the rights to TFTC and release a top-quality Blu-ray set. A long shot but one can dream.
