I wouldn't really blame the actor for his performance though. I mean, he was probably just doing what Schumacher instructed him to do. And really if you think about it, there's no way to make that dialogue not sound ridiculous.

I don't blame him either, the acting as a whole in that film barring Kilmer, O'Donnell and Gough is pretty over the top and out there as is. The movie was intentionally made to be very cartoony and the actor was likely instructed to perform it that way.
It felt like with Batman Forever they tried to make it to appeal to fans of both the dark version of Batman and a more campy version like in the 60s show, and the two don't really mesh together.
