Just saw this thing today. It's basically a horror/slasher take on the Superman origin story. I noticed it had an incredibly strong EC Comics/TFTC vibe going for it, so much so in fact that I almost expected to see Bill Gaines's name show up in the credits. I wonder if this was deliberate.

I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. It's been described as a Horror-oriented take on Superman and that's pretty much what it is. I too noticed it had a considerable EC/TFTC flare to it, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was intentional.

Hi, guys! You know, ever since I'd seen the Brightburn trailer, I kind of wanted to see it. Specifically, because the mixture of the superhero and horror genres sounds awesome(as long as it's done right). Now, hearing from you guys and others that it's pretty good, I might check it out.

I definitely recommend it. It's a refreshing take on superhero films and seeing as it's been quite successful at the box office, I'm hoping it leads to a resurgence of more Horror-oriented superhero and comic book films. There's talk of sequels, which'll likely happen.

He's even more disturbing in the movie. He did a great job of making the character frightening but still sympathetic and tragic. A character I hope we see more of for sure.

The filmmakers even said they hope to do something like a Brightburn universe that focuses on other superpowered characters who co-exist in the same world as Brightburn does. I'd love to see something like that and maybe it might even inspire Marvel to do an offshoot of the MCU that focuses on the more Horror-oriented characters.

There's clearly an audience and interest for more R-rated and mature superhero fare, so one can only hope Marvel is taking notice and we can get something like that. Sadly it'd probably too late for that to be applicable to Venom He so should've been a prime candidate for an R-rated film as part of such an offshoot series.

I hope that there will be more R rated comic book and superhero material when it comes to films and even television shows. However, I'm not counting on Marvel to partake in this unless they prove otherwise. ESPECIALLY after that Venom bullshit.

Between Brightburn and the Deadpool films, it'd be great to see a resurgence of R-rated comic book films. There's a clear interest for them among audiences. And with the big number of people who are fans of both comic book films and Horror, the two combined is a no-brainer for box office success.

I also hope that there will be a resurgence of R rated comic book films. As I've said before, I think that at least half of the comic book movies being released should be rated R while the other half should be rated PG-13. That way there will be something for mature audiences and younger audiences. Of course, knowing some children, they'll probably want to see the R rated comic book films.

You got to wonder if Dark Phoenix underperforms if this might spell potential doom for PG-13 comic book fare. The reviews have been brutal so far for it, and it says something when the R-rated Logan and both Deadpool films are as highly rated as they are.

The reviews have been brutal so far for it, and it says something when the R-rated Logan and both Deadpool films are as highly rated as they are. Excellent point. Concerning Dark Phoenix, it sounds like a lot of things went wrong in terms of the writing, execution, the interference from Disney, and probably not aiming for a higher rating that could benefit the film.
Plus, even though I could be wrong, many people are getting sick and tired of constant PG-13 rated comic book and superhero fare. They want more variety content. They want something more mature for the older audiences. And I think Brightburn shows that there is an audience for R rated comic book and superhero fare.
