I saw Dark Phoenix earlier and it surprisingly wasn't too bad, but you can tell the current incarnation of the X-Men saga has been stretched as far as it could go, and there's the feeling such a dark story like this would've immensely benefitted from an R-rating.

You and many others have said that the film was better off with an R rating if they truly wanted to go dark with the story. Missed opportunities.

It had a lot of problems for sure looking back on it. Felt like it was too condensed to fit a two-hour runtime and like it was too held back by it's rating. Sad that it's the second failed attempt at adapting the storyline after the disatrous effort in X-Men: The Last Stand.

They shouldn't adapt this storyline ever again if they can't take the time to do it right.

Perhaps in the MCU it can be done justice but with DP's failure I can't see any studio wanting to attempt it again. Too bad as the Dark Phoenix storyline in the comics is among the best.

I don't think so. Even the MCU is showing signs of slipping when it comes to proper story structure and plot consistences.

Still, the MCU at least has a mostly solid track record and I trust they'll handle the X-Men with care.
Dark Phoenix's performance has been brutal $209 million dollars worldwide would normally be good, but when your movie cost $200 million to make which doesn't even include things like advertising and merchandising, then yeah :/

Time will tell if the MCU will be able to properly handle the X-Men franchise, though.
I just heard that DP has been removed from thousands of theaters because of the bad box office performance. Sad.

I noticed at my theater it has hardly any showing by now. I fully expect it to leave by either next weekend or after. Very unfortunate. Director Simon Kinberg took full responsbility for it's failure which was responsible and mature of him, but Fox also did a poor job with it from their end and did nobody any favors.

Major respect to Simon Kinberg for taking responsibility and being honest. Most directors nowadays don't do that.

Dark Phoenix unfortunately joins the long list of movies ruined by studio interference. Wasn't the production actually quite troubled?

Dark Phoenix, unfortunately, joins the long list of movies ruined by studio interference. Wasn't the production actually quite troubled? Yes, it was. A lot of reshooting and rewriting went on. And you know what? It seems like almost half of the movies released this year had been ruined by studio interference. SMH.

Studios and execs unfortunately just never learn to just leave filmmakers alone and let them make the films they went and that audiences want to see.

Dark Phoenix has already been yanked from so many theaters and left mine about a week or so ago. The studio has nobody but themselves to blame for their mishandling for sure.
