Although Suicide Squad was a commercial success it was critically ravaged. We can only hope WB is listening to the reviews and not the dollars.

So far the DCEU has been on the road to recovery, let's see if this keeps that streak up.

I saw Joker on a Thursday night showing and without spoilers, I'll just say it's an incredible film and IMO DC's best to date. I'm very happy for the success and can only hope it leads to a resurgence of R-rated comic book films and more edgy characters like Joker getting the mature onscreen treatment they deserve.

That is AWESOME!!! I'm planning on seeing Joker within a few weeks. First, I'm going to see It Chapter 2 in a few days and then that film later this month. The film made over $94 million. I hope that it at least reaches up to $100 million before the weekend is over. I agree that hopefully, the success of this film encourages more R rated comic book films to come about.

I think the success clearly shows there's an interest and demand by both fans and the general audience to see characters like Joker given the mature treatment they not only deserve onscreen, but have arguably needed from the get-go. Much as I've enjoyed the portrayals of the character by Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger (R.I.P.), it felt like we never had a proper Joker with him always being held back by the family-friendly PG-13 rating. We finally have a live-action Joker who's his proper edgy, unrestricted self.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. and other movie studios finally come to their senses and start making good quality movies similar to Joker that are aimed at mature audiences. Also, instead of a few weeks as I mentioned earlier, I'm finally going to see the film this Friday with my brother. I want to see what everyone's been talking about and gushing about. I just hope I like it.

I personally loved it. Very different from the usual effects spectacle so many comic book films tend to be, but it's different in the best way possible and just what comic book films need to freshen up.

Guess what. I FINALLY saw Joker today and...I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU WERE 1000% CORRECT WHEN YOU SAID THAT IT'S AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE! IT'S A MASTERPIECE!!!! I LOVE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! It's a strangely beautiful film. Joaquin Phoenix was BEYOND PHENOMENAL as Arthur Fleck/Joker. The story was gripping, the 70s/80s aesthetic was WONDERFUL, the atmosphere felt real, etc. SO MANY GREAT THINGS I LOVE. The beginning of the movie was a little slow but it eventually picked up and I couldn't get enough of it. Also, the music score was haunting and amazing. Watching this film, I felt sad, disturbed, angry, elated, horrified, and amused. In a strange way, the film felt cathartic.
Btw, this is the second film I'd seen this weekend. 2 days ago on Friday, I'd seen It Chapter 2 and I thought it was decent. Not as good as the first film, but it had a lot of awesome moments that I love. The relationships between the characters were great and there were moments where I was genuinely scared out of my mind. Even walking out of the movie theater with my brother by the time it was night, I actually was wondering if the environment was going to morph into something nightmarish because of all of what I saw in the film. LOL! And like Joker, I felt a lot of emotions watching this film. Did you see this film, too?
Thinking about it, both films couldn't have worked if they were rated PG-13. Because dark content plays a huge role in each film and much of the plot points of these stories are mature-related which would've been watered down. And judging by a lot of people enjoying these films and both films' huge box office successes, this shows that as long as a film is well made, the rating shouldn't have to matter. I hope that there will be more good R rated films.
Joker - 9/10
It Chapter 2 - 7/10

I did indeed also see It: Chapter 2 and loved it. I felt it a worthy conclusion to the storyline that began in Chapter 1. I feel the two films can't really be compared as they're not really seperate films, just one epic film split into two parts. I found both movies to be quite the journey, as emotional as it was terrifying, which is something Stephen King does so masterfully.
Glad you liked Joker. I'm very happy to see the success and that it repeated this weekend. What's also good news is how Joaquin Phoenix has expressed interest in doing a sequel, which is awesome to hear. The way the film ended, I'd love to see a sequel. This movie was the much-needed breath of fresh air that comic book films sorely need right now and I hope it kickstarts a trend of more R-rated comic book films that do justice to the edgier characters who deserve it. Finally, a proper R-rated Joker who isn't intended for a family audience and is allowed to be as dark and disturbing as can be.

It's just that for me, personally, Chapter 2 could've been much better in terms of things like the pacing and some of the points in the story. But it's a very worthy pairing to Chapter 1. And yes, Stephen King does an amazing job conveying such strong emotions in his stories, ESPECIALLY this one, in such a manner to where it can be both a terrifying as well as an emotional experience. I also heard that the filmmakers might be doing a Chapter 3. Call me crazy but I would actually like a Chapter 3. What do you think? I didn't like Joker. I LOVE Joker. It was a damn-near perfect film for me and I don't say that very often about a lot of films. I hope that we do get a sequel and it's awesome that Joaquin Phoenix wants to do a sequel. Knowing that he mainly sticks to independent film projects, I thought that he'd probably wouldn't want to do some sort of sequel to this film. Thankfully, I was wrong. And since the film has made a little over $600 million worldwide after just 3 weeks of being released, it's like they now have no other choice but to make a sequel. LOL! Also, I've heard some reports that the film might make up to $1 billion worldwide which is MASSIVE! If that happens, AND I HOPE IT DOES, that would mean 2 things: the film was able to earn a billion dollars worldwide without being released in China AND it proves that R rated movies CAN BE EXTREMELY PROFITABLE. Both films, in a strange way, are beautiful. They both make me think about life and society.

I'd actually really like to see It: Chapter 3 as well. I'd like to see it as a prequel covering the eras before the 80s, showing Pennywise's reign of terror. I think there's a lot of ground they could cover there. Plus I enjoy historical Horror films that take place during or around major historical events, so that for me adds to the appeal.
Wow, had no idea Joker did that well. This is a huge win not just for comic book films but especially R-rated ones. I sure hope Sony are kicking themselves over releasing Venom without the R-rating, as audiences and fans have clearly showed they want edgy characters like Joker to be R-rated and not held back. The way Joker ended I can totally see where a sequel would go and it makes me very excited to think we're getting The Joker the way he should've always been.

I'd like to see how Pennywise became such an imposing and sinister presence in Derry. And/or maybe even another sequel where Pennywise somehow comes back and continues to look for new victims. It's implied in some of Stephen King's novels that came after the "It" novel, he survived or came back from the dead, and is still lingering in Derry. So, who knows? Yes. Joker is doing more than well. It's doing FANTASTICALLY! Also, I just read, according to Forbes, that it's now at about $650 million worldwide as of Friday! Yep, they're most likely going to do a sequel. And it's a good thing that Joaquin Phoenix is willing to do a sequel. And yes, I bet that Sony are kicking themselves over releasing Venom as PG-13 rated. From what I heard from people who'd seen it, Venom held back a ton stuff which is one of the disadvantages of a PG-13 rating. Thankfully, Joker didn't hold back at all and its R rating proved to be very beneficial for it.

When a film is a success the studio will always want to keep it going with sequels, so I'd bet good money Chapter 2 is far from the last we'll be seeing of Pennywise. I'm all for It: Chapter 3 and even a sequel. As you said, throughout King's work, Pennywise's survival and return has been heavily implied.
Venom indeed felt extremely neutered and you can tell the PG-13 rating put it in a bad spot. I'm so happy they opted not to do that with Joker. Even as excellent as past portrayals of the character have been between the likes of Heath Ledger and Mark Hamill, it always felt like the character was never as dark as he should be as he was in the comics, and it's excellent that's finally been remedied. A character like Joker who's a complete maniac who's committed unspeakable crimes should not be neutered.
