I'll give credit the Doom and RE films were at least R-rated, but they still should've been much more faithful and respectful to the games they were based off of. You said it! At least the filmmakers behind those films had sense enough to know that those films should be rated R due to the resource material they're based off of.

It's laughable to even imagine a PG-13 MK film and yet we not only got two of them back then but even an animated series.

No doubt the MK films back then were PG-13 to try to reach a wider audience given the popularity of the games with kids, despite the games not being made with kids in mind.

There are some things that just can't be adjusted to reach a wider audience. If you're trying to please everyone, you'll ultimately please nobody.

I just found out that there are going to be two Mortal Kombat films, one live-action and the other one anime, that are going to be R rated. Check this out.

It's good to see they're branching out with MK stuff aimed at mature audiences this time, which is what they should've done.
Thing is, in this day and age of so much CGI, I'm worried the infamous fatalities from the games will be done with CGI, which would be such a disappointment to see. There's never an excuse for gore effects being done digitally. I can't imagine seeing the likes of the infamous spine rip fatality being done digitally, it'd look so bad.

They need to try practical effects. CGI should be used when necessary.

It'd be so cool to not only see the classic MK fatalities finally realized in live-action but done old-school with prosthetics and in-camera gore effects. Digital blood always looks terrible and immediately noticable, and I'd hate for MK to suffer from that.
Speaking of MK, we're getting a new animated MK film that's rated R. Looks awesome from the trailer.
I'm especially happy to see Scorpion is the main character, as he's my favorite. Seriously, they could (and probably should) just make a Scorpion Vs. Sub-Zero live-action film and that by itself would likely draw in the crowds.

Here's to hoping both this and the new live-action film deliver the goods.
