Horror film director Stuart Gordon died yesterday at the age of 72, from causes yet to be revealed as of this writing. R.I.P. Very shocked and sad to hear this, he directed many fine Horror films including Re-Animator, Dolls and From Beyond, and also directed good episodes of the shows Masters Of Horror and Fear Itself. He directed some good non-Horror fare too such as Fortress and Robot Jox. Always seemed like a nice and humble man who enjoyed meeting fans and discussing his work. Very sad of his passing. R.I.P.
2020 is off to such a terrible start so far. The coronavirus and what it's causing, and the deaths of the likes of Stuart Gordon as well as Max von Sydow, Kirk Douglas and Kobe Bryant. Ugh, I already want this year to just be over.

Sorry I’m late to this topic but yeah it was a great loss. I loved Re-Animator. I always felt it had a TFTC vibe to it. I think his most underrated film is Stuck(2007). Based on a true story it’s about a young woman who runs over a man who is lodged in her windshield and she has to figure out what to do. Good thriller

Never seen Stuck but you've got my curiousity going to see it.
Re-Animator really feels like it could've been a TFTC episode or one of the TFTC Presents films. I wouldn't be surprised if Gordon was heavily influenced by EC Comics when he made it.

yeah I think you are right. Stuck also had a TFTC vibe to in a way but more of a thriller

Really a shame Gordon never directed a TFTC episode, he would've been an excellent fit for the show. If you've ever seen From Beyond, that also had a TFTC vibe to it in some ways. I have no doubt he grew up being a fan of the EC Comics.

Yes From Beyond is great too. Had a big crush on Barabara Crampton. Amazingly she looks pretty much the exact same today. Stuart actually came from a play background. He has also adapted some plays into film but is know for adapting HP Lovrcraft

Lovecraft's work was likely a big influence on EC Comics as well. I'm sure Gordon would've directed a fine TFTC episode or two had he ever been involved with the show. I wish TFTC had had a special season where they recruited prolific Horror directors like him to contribute an episode. I know Masters Of Horror did that concept but it would've been extra special to see it implemented on TFTC.
