Guys, I found a recent article that mentioned the show. It's called, "Why Tales From The Crypt Is Horror TV's Most Successful Anthology". It talks about how the show is arguably the best anthology show. And I agree. Even though The Twilight Zone set the stage for horror and sci-fi anthology on television, Tales from the Crypt took it to a whole other level that hasn't been matched before and since. And this is regardless of whether a horror anthology show is aimed at children, teens, or adults. Other shows, and this article mentions some of them, like Night Gallery, Tales from the Darkside, The Hitchhiker, The Ray Bradbury Theater, Freddy's Nightmares, Monsters, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, The Outer Limits (both the 1960s and 1990s versions), Perversions of Science, The Nightmare Room, Masters of Horror, The Haunting Hour, and American Horror Story haven't captured such excitement and charm the way this show had. Any thoughts? Here's the article. screenrant.com/tales-crypt-most-successful-horror-tv-anthology-reason/

Good article, and agreed with much of it. TFTC for me will always be the King of Horror anthologies and not just due to the quality of many of the stories and the A-class production value, but also the Crypt Keeper who really adds an extra special quality to it all that no other anthology has.

Precisely! The Crypt Keeper specifically makes the show even more special and memorable. He brings the flavor and edge that everyone, young and old, love.

I'd wager the Crypt Keeper was an enormous part of TFTC's success and popularity, and without him it wouldn't had nearly the impact it did.

There's something about Crypty that truly helped make the show such a phenomenal success. Heck, even the famous directors, producers, and actors who worked on the show said that he's the true star of the show.

He really is. It's mind-blowing to think the reboot from a few years back would likely not have had the Crypt Keeper. How can you do TFTC without him?

I absolutely agree. How exactly can you do TFTC without Crypty? It's just not truly possible. He's there for a reason. He helps the show along. Heck, he is the show.

I still remember quite well how popular he was. TFTC was originally supposed to end with Season 3 but stuck around for a few more after that. I bet any money Crypty and his popularity were the deciding factor in TFTC continuing for more seasons than planned.

I bet any money Crypty and his popularity were the deciding factor in TFTC continuing for more seasons than planned. You said it! The show and Crypty was such a hit with people that the show lasted for four more seasons which total to seven seasons for the entire series. Though, Bill Gaines, who was the chief editor of the EC Comics and the show's consultant, lived to see season 3. Rest in peace to him. Also, I forgot to mention in my initial post in this thread that one of the other things that sets TFTC apart from the other horror anthology shows that came before and after it is that it isn't afraid to embrace its cheesiness and run with it. Sure, there are some episodes that are serious but there are other episodes that are over-the-top. And that in of itself show that TFTC is extremely versatile when it comes to the different tones of different episodes.

It's amazing how TFTC had such a variety of episodes that could be so tonally different and yet still work. It had episodes that were incredibly dark and serious, other ones more comedic and light. And somehow, it made it all work. It's a testament to the talents of all involved with it.
