to be a TFTC film. It was made by Universal, which did Demon Knight and Bordello, so I don't think it's an impossibility. The tone, dialogue and even the look of Very Bad Things is so in line with TFTC that I find it hard to believe that it's just a coincidence.

I recall it definitely has something of an EC flare to it. It's quite possible it at least took some inspiration. I don't know if the filmmakers have ever talked about EC Comics being an influence when they made it, it's possible perhaps they do on the Blu-ray special features.

Hmm. That's a good point. And by looking at the film, it's a perfect fit for a TFTC film.
That's why I put it on my TFTC Films list.

I recall the previews made the movie look much more comedic than it really is when it's actually quite dark. It's not without humor for sure, but it's nowhere near as comedic as the advertising made it look. I recall the previews made it look like something of a screwball comedy, when the film is most certainly not like that.

Imagine going to see the film back then thinking it'd be funny and then being quite shocked leaving the theater over how dark and gruesome it is.

Imagine going to see the film back then thinking it'd be funny and then being quite shocked leaving the theater over how dark and gruesome it is. It was clearly marketed to fool people into thinking it was another There's Something About Mary, especially with Cameron Diaz's involvement.

Didn't it come out pretty much right after that film? No doubt the studio tried to make it seem like another one of her comedic films.

It could also be the previews didn't make it look very interesting, either. And going by the trailer, you'd never guess it was such a dark film and at times borderline Horror.
