It wasn't a show that talked down to it's audience for sure and wasn't afraid to not play it safe.
Some TFTC episodes have a bit of an AYAOTD feel to them, like if Crypty and the Midnight Society collaborated on them together. I particularly think Korman's Kalamity, House Of Horror, Undertaking Palor, The Secret and The Ventriloquist's Dummy are very AYAOTD-like and in a way feel like more adult AYAOTD episodes.
