You know, when you think about it, it is rather silly AF getting heartbroken and/or crying over a fictional character when he/she dies or get killed. I mean, they're were created by writers and dreamers. But, for some crazy reason, the writers would have an uncanny ability to manipulate us into falling for and growing attached to these characters. We would end up investing so much into the characters emotionally that you'd swear that they were like real life friends or relatives of ours. Then, when it's decided that they would be killed off, or worse, killed out of the blue, it blindsides us and makes us so sad. Doesn't matter if it's literature, animation, television, or film. A beloved character's death can have a huge impact on those who adore him or her.
For this thread, I've picked the five character deaths from popular films I think were some of the most devastating deaths for beloved main characters.
Feel free to add any popular character deaths from films that may have made you sad or stuck out to you.

There's been a lot. But Logan had me tearing up by the end. Even though you knew it was going to happen, the reality of it hit you when it actually did. To be honest, even though I haven't seen Logan, I knew in my soul that he was going to die at the end. I knew it. And with Hugh retiring from the character, it made it all the more painful and emotional.

I still have hope he'll be open to reprising the role somewhere down the line. Especially if Fox agrees to share the X-Men with Marvel which is so overdue at this point.

But, I wouldn't be surprised if Hugh doesn't nor would I blame him even though I wish he would stick around a little bit longer. Only time will tell.
Also, maybe it's just me but with Ryan Reynolds gaining success with Deadpool and is becoming more prominent in the X-Men film universe, I think even he deep down also wants Hugh to stay a little longer. But, what's done is done.

Without spoiling Logan, I'll say the timeframe the film is set in makes it possible for Wolverine to still be alive and active years prior. So his reprisal wouldn't be impossible.

Forgive me but I read about what happened in the film and I broke down. I'm glad he wasn't alone when he died. I knew it was going to happen but still...
That could happen but I wouldn't be surprised if Hugh doesn't return. I'm not holding my breath. Plus, the continuity errors are kind of troubling because the events that happened in Logan happened in 2029 with Logan looking very old while Days of Future Past partially took place in 2024 with Logan looking older but still functioning. Maybe his powers began to decrease somehow and his age caught up to him quicker than expected. Who knows? But as for Hugh returning, unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

Did the ending of DOFP with Logan awaking in the new future occur in 2024 or was that just the dark future with the Sentinels?

It's kind of hard to explain. To me, specific years are key. Like I said in my other post, X-Men: Days of Future Past partially took place in 2024 while Logan took place in 2029. 2029 is five years away from 2024. If you think about it, five years isn't really a long time. During that period of time, apparently Logan supposedly aged drastically and his healing factor is slowing down tremendously for some reason. In DOFP, Logan appears as a middle age man(who still looked great for his age) and healed quickly as usual, even in the future of 2024. Whereas in Logan, Logan appears as a much older man with lots of wrinkles(though not too many) and it took him quite a while to heal, and it's suppose to be 2029. So, you go from middle age to old age in just five years instead of say fifty or sixty years. Or in Logan's case, maybe a hundred and something to two hundred or more years(Correct me if I'm wrong about his age.).
At the end of DOFP, I assumed that Logan woke up in 2024, only in a different timeline. Even though I'm not good analyzing the time travel situations in films(or time travel in general), I feel that even if you time traveled the way Logan did with the intent of returning, the year in which you traveled from should be the same year in which you returned to. I'm not entirely sure if it's still the dark future with The Sentinels. As others have said, the ending in which Logan woke up did felt dream-like and heavenly. I don't know, though. That still doesn't explain how Logan supposedly happens five years later with Logan's drastic aging and that future looks as if it's different from both futures portrayed in DOFP.
Ask yourself this question. How or why could Logan age tremendously over the course of FIVE YEARS? Now, there could be a possibility that perhaps something happened to him during those five years that took most of his healing factor away and aged him. But it still wouldn't explain why he'd age so quickly in such a short period of time. Even with his slowly waning healing factor as he ages, for the most part, he still would look the way he did in Days of Future Past for maybe another ten or so years. You would expect that he would age into the way he looked in Logan in like maybe two or three more decades. NOT FIVE YEARS!
And then, I'm hearing that Logan itself might've taken place in some alternate future or something. For some reason, I don't buy it, especially without evidence of it. And even if it did, what could've caused that? And with the continuity errors, that would kind of make DOFP extremely irrelevant.
I don't know. That's just me. It still doesn't make me feel better about the whole situation.

There's still quite a bit that's vague about the new X-Men timeframe, like, what was Wolverine doing after the events of Apocalypse when he escaped from the lab?

That's a good question. You suppose he just drifted off in being in his own adventures until he met up with the X-Men like shown in the original film?
With some stuff being so vague in the new timeline, it makes me wonder if it's even better than the last one.

It's certainly possible. It's big-time wishful thinking but who's to say he also didn't have run-ins and adventures with some of the MCU heroes in this new timeline? I'd like to think he did and that'll give Marvel/Fox ideas in the event we get that X-Men/Avengers crossover on film.

I'd like to think he did and that'll give Marvel/Fox ideas in the event we get that X-Men/Avengers crossover on film. That's a nice thought. But still, if this is it for him, so be it. If he does come back somehow, it'll be great. But it still wouldn't change the fact that we know how the story will end for him and how so soon. Also, unless The Infinity War change my mind, I don't know if they would gell well with the X-Men. I could be wrong.
Since Hugh has retired, I personally don't see him returning anytime soon sadly. I don't want him to tire himself out and risk his skin cancer.

That sucks about his skin cancer. He cited that as a factor in why he was leaving the role.

That sucks about his skin cancer. He cited that as a factor in why he was leaving the role. I know. I sure hate that he's dealing with skin cancer. This is why you have to be very careful when going out in the sun and staying out in it for a bit too long. Things like sunscreen will help matters. I read somewhere a few weeks ago that it was the fifth or sixth time he had doctors remove the cancer from his nose(I think; or another spot on his face). He seems like such a trooper about it. Still, I hate that he's suffering from skin cancer.
As I've indicated in my last post, as much as I want him to stay a bit longer as Wolverine, I don't want him to put his health further at risk due to his cancer and most likely his age. I mean, playing a character like Wolverine and dealing with a health crisis like skin cancer can be really taxing. Though, he obviously loves the character of Logan/Wolverine and love portraying him, his health and well being comes first. God, I'm gonna miss him playing Logan/Wolverine.
