Now, I've mentioned in my previous NOES thread that I was going to talk about the Dream Demons. I mean, thanks to the sixth film, they play in integral part in Freddy being the powerful entity he is.
It's a shame that they didn't explore this plot point more. It sounds very interesting.
I've read in certain areas online concerning the NOES movie series that the Dream Demons are still a bit of a mystery. I understand. It's like, "Where did these things come from? What's their purpose? And what was it about Freddy that they're drawn to out of a planet full of other evil people?" But I've come to the conclusion that perhaps the Dream Demons are ancient, malevolent entities whose sole purpose is to recruit some of the most evil individuals in the world to also become Dream Demons and perhaps collect on the souls of the victims. Though, from what we've seen, Freddy seems to be the only person shown that these entities have recruited and transformed into the powerful force of evil and terror within the psyche.
I would imagine that these beings most likely would have been around since the dawn of man because ever since humanity was born, sleeping serves as one of the most important factors of being a functioning human. You can't avoid sleep. You need your rest in order to properly function. Your body requires sleep. That goes for the mind and soul. Sleep is the best way to recharge yourself. And for the most part, when you sleep, you dream. So, there's no reason to assume that these entities would pass up an opportunity to take advantage of sleep.
Thoughts?

I also think the kind of person you are plays a major factor in whether they'd come for you or not. With Freddy being the deviant he was as a murderer and a pedophile, about the lowest form of life you can truly be, I think he would've been more than evil enough to merit being chosen by them.

EXACTLY!!! The kind of person he was in life definitely played a major role. The Dream Demons wanted someone that was the personification of pure evil and they found it with him. In fact, it could also be Freddy's existence and the way he came to be that plays a role as well. If you think about it, it's almost as if his entire existence was doomed from the start. He was the result of brutal rape and had an abusive childhood. Basically, it's like it was Freddy's fate to always be a monster.

He's not called the bastard son of 100 maniacs for nothing. It's like he was always supposed to be one of the most evil beings to ever exist. When you think long and hard about it, he's quite possibly the most evil villain ever.

When you think long and hard about it, he's quite possibly the most evil villain ever. Absolutely!!!! Yes, guys like Dracula, Michael Myers, Hannibal Lector, and even Jason Voorhees(and I'll talk about why I think Jason is no better than in another thread) are evil villains, but Freddy is in a class all by himself. Call me crazy but on one hand, thanks to what was revealed about his past in Freddy's Dead and to a certain degree, Dream Warriors, I feel kind of sorry for him because it's like Fate was against him in many ways in terms of the way he was conceived and how his early life played out. He pretty much never knew what normalcy and positivity was like. It's like he never truly was a human being to begin with. He was human in terms of physicality. But not spiritually. However, it still doesn't take away the fact that he's such an evil monster. Thanks to his conception and his damaging childhood, he lashed out at the most innocent of people, children. And it's like one other person had said. Whoever said this, and I'm paraphrasing, said that Freddy probably subconsciously hates children because they remind him of him never having a normal, happy childhood and never getting the chance to simply be a child. So, he does what he knows best which is to inflict pain and sadism onto them. And this is mainly for him to feel like he has power and control over them. In fact, that's really what being a predator and a murderer is all about. Power and control. Add along to the fact that he enjoys the pain and suffering of others says a lot. All he knows is pain. So, he wants everyone else to feel pain, no matter what kind of pain that may be. In this instance, he's possibly one of the most evil villains ever. Yet, the fact that he has a mostly sympathetic backstory makes him an interesting villain and probably one of the best villains ever as well.

I definitely agree with all of that. While his backstory and unfortunate upbringing can inspire some sympathy, ultimately he's just too evil and sadistic a villain to sympathize with. Different from Jason where he's more of a victim of circumstances out of his hand and never given a chance to be apart of normal society.

Different from Jason where he's more of a victim of circumstances out of his hand and never given a chance to be apart of normal society. Exactly! At the end of the day, he's still an extremely evil and sadistic villain who you can't really sympathize with, even though you can still kind of have sympathy for his early past. Ultimately, it doesn't take away the fact that he's such a monster. But, and this is how I feel, even Jason has shown to be an evil villain. Sure, he's not as evil and not quite as sadistic as Freddy. And yes, he was a victim of circumstances and was never given a chance to have a normal life due to his physical deformity. However, he's absolutely no angel either. He kills indiscriminately and without care. Like Freddy, his tragic past don't take away the fact that he's a murderous monster. Nowhere near as big of a monster as Freddy, but still a monster.

Jason is the lesser of two evils, but you know what they say about that; the lesser evil is still evil.

Jason is the lesser of two evils, but you know what they say about that; the lesser evil is still evil. You can say that again. Jason is a saint compared to Freddy, but he's STILL EVIL.

At the end of the day neither is someone you'd want to run into, for sure.

Funny as he is, I wouldn't want to run into Crypty, either. He's so sly and treacherous, you just never know what he might do.

I wouldn't want to run into him either!!! As you said, you just never know what he might do since he's so sly and treacherous. Even one of the filmmakers of TFTC had said that he's this strange little guy that can make you laugh but he can kill you. Yikes!

Going back to the Dream Demons, I've always wondered about where they came from. On one hand, they seem rather silly, even on paper. But at the same time, once you really think about it, they are much darker than what they truly are.

Good question. The writers would know it for sure.
