I said that I was going to make a thread about Jason and here it is.
I've mentioned in the other thread about Freddy and the Dream Demons that Jason is still evil like the other horror movie characters I've mentioned. Though, he's probably the most sympathetic of the bunch. His past is so sad and could've been avoidable. Maybe if Pamela had taken steps to protect Jason like probably quitting her job as the camp's cook and moved him away, maybe things would've been different. But, depending on how the story was written, like if she didn't have any choice but to stay there in order to make a living for herself and Jason, I understand in that situation. However there should've been a way to protect Jason and for him to not fall victim to what eventually happened to him. I personally think that Jason had somehow survived and was able to swim to another part of the camp where no one was able to find him.
People have said that Jason is more of a misunderstood character and is very territorial when it comes to Crystal Lake. And I get that because he feels very protective over his territory and is described by fans as the "hand of God" or a "force of Mother Nature" due to him eliminating the "bad" people who engage in drugs and sex.
However, you'd have to be clueless to ignore the fact that Jason still has done a lot of horrible and evil things to people. Yes, people do cheer when they see the annoying and sometimes bad characters get killed in the F13 films. However, some of the victims that Jason has killed didn't deserve to be killed at all. In fact, some of them are innocent. He's killed bumbling yet otherwise harmless people and has shown to be brutally relentless AF when he's chasing down his prey. Also, didn't he assault Chris from part 3 at one point? And in the remake, he kept a girl hostage for several months because he used her like a shrine since she reminds him of his mother, and he would scare her into staying if she tries to escape. That doesn't sound like someone that's all too sympathetic.
Maybe is just me but I would want to ask the fans after looking into these things, "Tell me again how Jason Voorhees is misunderstood?"
Thoughts?
