I notice that for the syndicated versions of the show, which were heavily edited, the show is titled "HBO's Tales From The Crypt". Why was it called this and not just "Tales From The Crypt"?

I'm guessing to avoid confusion with the 1972 TFTC movie? Or it might just be a legal thing where it needs the HBO in the title when it's shown outside of HBO itself.

As Crypt Keeper had indicated, perhaps outside of HBO showings, it needed to be shown which channel the show was originally created and aired on.

As Cryptkeeper and Bradley pointed out, as part of the agreement for syndication, all syndicated networks who broadcasted Tales had to have it labeled for HBO in order for new viewers to know what network it was originally on. This being the case, HBO being a Premium channel which required subscription to watch, this allowed HBO to receive more subscribers for their network if new viewers wanted to see the series unedited, uncut and uncensored. That or purchase the HBO/Warner Video VHS releases.
