Playlist of various episodes. I loved watching this show on the Discovery Channel back then (back when they had programming that was not just educational but also entertaining and had you genuinely interested in pursuing scientific careers). Chroncling various types of special effects in a number of notable films and how they were achieved. This was during the age when CGI hadn't become so dominant like it is now and there was still a need for practical in-camera special effects whenever possible. This show always brings back good memories of my childhood and makes me miss the old days of special effects in movies before the digital takeover. A few of my favorite episodes here: Sorry about the subtitles in the last two episodes, can't seem to find versions without them for now. But it's nonetheless awesome to re-visit these again. I always enjoyed the episodes focused on Horror and creature effects the most.

These videos are great. Thank you for finding them and sharing them. And I don't mind the subtitles. These are fascinating and amazing.
Watching the second and fourth videos, I can't help but be pissed off that Hellraiser and RoboCop weren't nominated for Oscars for Best Make Up Effects. Then again, it just shows how selective and unfair the Oscars are overall.

You're welcome. I'm grateful these can be viewed online.
It's unfair how genre films still tend to get the short end of the stick at the Oscars, which goes to show the unfair bias the industry has against such types of films. These films are by far the most popular and profitable, and have helped launch and establish so many careers. Yet the industry still sees fit to treat genres like Horror with disrespect.

It's great that we're able to view these programs online. Thank you! If it weren't for horror films, actions films in the 1980s and 1990s, and now, the comic book films, the entertainment industry would've collapsed. As you said, these films are popular and profitable. The least they could do was to show more appreciation for their artistry. Then again, if the low ratings in the last several years are any indication, most people are getting tired of the Oscars and their unfair biasness.

I bet there's tons of people throughout the industry from actors, writers, directors, producers, etc. who are Horror fans and also don't like the unfair treatment Horror films often get from the Oscars. I'd bet so many of these people got into the business because of Horror which was a springboard for getting in film in general, and to see such an important genre disrespect like that has to be disheartening.

There could be many horror fans in the industry but you wouldn't know it with the way horror films are being treated. If it wasn't for the horror genre being the most versatile genre, being profitable, and audiences constantly craving films, the entertainment industry wouldn't care. But those who are actually fans and who care, I can't imagine how frustrating it is that the industry and award shows like the Oscars are constantly showing unfair biasness toward the genre. But as I've said, the Oscars' ratings have been plummeting in the last several years and more people are realizing that we don't need the validation from an unfair system that the Oscars represent.

Very true. All I have to say is the movie industry as we know may well not even be an industry if not for Horror. There's some studios that owe their very existence and success to Horror, like Universal and New Line.
