Who did you think got a harsh punishment that they didn't really deserve?
My #1 has to be: Bruce McGill in The Trap. Seriously, execution by electric chair for being an unpleasant character and for trying to scam his life insurance company? And that's after he got talked into that by his brother and wife (who were cheating on him by the way).
And then...
Kevin Kilner in The Sacrifice: Talked by a femme fatale into killing her husband, then double-crossed --> suicide
Andrew McCarthy in Loved to Death: Trying to make the girl of his dreams love him --> killing himself, then forced to spend eternity with (a deformed version of) her after she commits suicide as well
Eric Douglas in Yellow: Being a coward in battle --> killed by firing squad, the killing ordered by his dickhead dad

Definitely agree with Yellow. He didn't deserve that and I think the fact he was even on the battlefield in the first place made him worthy of respect. Some others:
Niles Talbot - The Man Who Was Death. While being a vigilante may arguably not be morally correct, the fact he only targeted criminals who escaped justice made him noble and he didn't enjoy what he did, he only did it out of a sense of justice. His execution was completely unwarranted, IMO.
Horton Rivers - Television Terror. He was an obnoxious and exploitive sleazebag but he didn't deserve to die for it. His assistant was arguably worse than him since she left him inside to die and in a way she's responsible for getting him killed.
Sweeney - Mournin' Mess. Not exactly a model citizen but he surely didn't deserve his gruesome fate.
Hector Elizondo in As Ye Sow (forgot his character's name). Such a tragic, unfortunate fate for him and while he was angry and jealous he never came off as douchey. He just wanted to make sure his wife wasn't being unfaithful and wanted to preserve their marriage.

Oh yeah! As Ye Sow - I'd totally forgotten about this episode and I agree with you. Somehow agree about Sweeney too.
Now, how about David Warner in The New Arrival? He only came across as a bit snobbish, know-it-all kind of person, but he's a professor and this is a characteristic common among many professors. In his mind, he was only trying to help.

Yeah, while he wasn't exactly likeable or kind, he didn't really seem like he deserved to die.

I especially agree about Horton Rivers from Television Terror. For some reason, I've always felt sorry for him at the end of the episode. Yes, he was an obnoxious, sleazy asshole. But, he didn't deserve to die. What ended up happening to him was truly terrifying and perhaps, one of the scariest moments in the whole series. And yes, his assistant/lover WAS worse than him! She was sleeping her way to the top, wanting to get back at Horton for slighting her, and was more concerned with ratings and notoriety. The bitch.

Exactly. I think in a lot of ways his assistant was the true antagonist of that episode rather than Horton, himself.

I hated her more than Horton, and I think I've ever hated him like a lot of the antagonists of the show. He was a jerk but he was at least a tad bit charismatic.

He was at least funny and his comical personality and delivery helped to alleviate the eerie mood of the episode which made the scary moments that much more powerful when they happened and hit you out of nowhere.

It's one of those situations where a likeable character, whether they're the protagonist or antagonist, builds a form of emotional(?) investment with the viewers, and when they die or get killed, it leaves the viewers quite sad.

And thing is as obnoxious as Horton was, he never got anybody killed and at least had some respectability to his career to an extent with him having been to war zones and such. He didn't deserve his horrendous fate.
