I just made a topic about the the episode Fitting Punishment directed by Jack Sholder and it got me thinking about what I think is his best film, The Hidden. It’s not an outright horror movie it had horror elements as well as elements of sci fi, action, and buddy cop comedy. It’s one of those movies that didn’t do much business but became a cult favorite. Not any big stars although Kyle Maclaughlin is known for his collaboration with David Lynch. It also has a important human message especially in its conclusion

Always loved this film and can recall it was among the earliest Horror films I've seen. Had it recorded on VHS alongside A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 and Lover Come Hack To me from TFTC. So much nostalgia. This movie is basically Lethal Weapon and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers fused together, and it's as awesome as it sounds.

Yup that sums the film up pretty well. It’s another of of those films that can never give made today

It's very 80s and has a very realistic, tangible feeling today which in this day and age of so much CGI feels welcome. It's a big reason I gravitate so much to films of the 70s, 80s and 90s. They still feel real.

I'm so burned out on so many CGI-heavy films which dominate theaters these days. CGI used in moderation is fine but too much of it makes movies feel very artificial to me.
This movie has a lot of very impressive stunt and action scenes despite the small budget. Looks like a $50 million movie with all that was accomplished. The opening sequence feels like it was a major influence on the Grand Theft Auto game series and I bet it had to have been. Feels so much like a GTA game in movie form and this was years before GTA existed.

It’s amazing how good the effects look with the budget they had to work with. Films like The Hidden, Terminator, and Fright Night we’re working with budgets of maybe 6.5-8 million which is basically catering budget for these big CGI driven films of today and they are not close to being as good as films like The Hidden

The effects in so many 80s and 90s films still hold up and look far more lifelike and convincing compared to today. Back then a lot of films used the effects to serve the story but these days it seems to be the opposite.
