A digital Crypt Keeper would look awful, no thanks to that idea. You just wouldn't be able to get the little details that the puppet has in it when you examine it and see the astounding level of work that was put into it to make it seem alive.

A digital Cryptkeeper would definitely look awful. It'll be like the creepy AF CGI Uncanny Valley on steroids! They need to bring back the practical effects with the animatronics.

In this day and age of so much CGI it'd be a breath of old-school fresh air to see honest to goodness animatronics and puppetry for a TFTC reboot. Bring back Kevin Yagher to do it as before.

Exactly!!! Bring back the practical effects, animatronics, and puppetry. Nothing wrong using a little CGI but make it authentic by going old school as well.

Bet if both John and Kevin were asked to return they'd do so right away. John always seems to really enjoy voicing Crypty and has fully embraced the role, and I don't see why Kevin would object to bringing the puppet back. Animatronics have improved since the 80s and 90s, so I'm sure we'd get an even better Crypty puppet all this time later.

Yes, John Kassir seemed to LOVE being Crypty and knows his character extremely well. And yes, Kevin Yahger should definitely return to physically bring back the Cryptkeeper. You're absolutely right on how animatronics are today. With the technology that we have now, animatronics and puppetry should be a lot easier to handle. Again, nothing wrong with occasionally using CGI but the practical effects is one of the things that help make Crypty seem more real.

Noticed my typo there, John and Kassir, I meant Kevin there.
I bet a TFTC revival with the CK puppet back and John reprising Crypty would be a big hit and it could even get interest going in wanting to see more practical in-camera effects. Which is a resurgence I'd love to see.

I strongly believe that younger generations would enjoy it. I would also love to see a resurgence of practical in-camera effects.

Just having the original puppet and John Kassir back doesn't automatically mean a reboot/remake/whatever would be a success. Both could come back and the show could fail (but not necessarily due to having both back).

It'd depend on a number of things. The reboot would have to be marketed and promoted well and draw enough viewers to be successful.

I agree with you both. It takes a lot more for the revival to be good than just bringing John Kassir and Kevin Yahger back. It takes a lot of work, effort, focus, dedication, time, motivation, and the right amount of enthusiasm in order for this to work for the second time.

I'm sure with the right marketing and outreach a TFTC revival could be very successful.

I think audiences would welcome it too as the modern Horror scene has been somewhat drying up lately. Ghost and zombie films/shows have arguably run their course for this era and I think both Horror fans and the general audience are all for something new.

Besides, the horror genre needs more of a push and though it seems to be doing well in cinema, it needs a boost in television.
