I used to watch both of these as a kid. It was during the height of both the Friday the 13th And Nightmare on Elm Street films. Although I would say that the Freddy character was a bit more popular since it came out at the same time Dream Warriors(the best sequel of the series) and Nightmare 4(the biggest box office hit of the series). However I must admit The Friday the 13th series I feel is the better overall series. It had nothing to do with Jason which I think is it’s tender because it focused on one prolonged storyline with different adventures and it was well made. Freddy Nightmares dealt with Freddy but there were a lot of clunker episodes. There were also some real good episodes. It was very campy, cheap, and surreal. Over the past couple days I’ve started rewatching both series with brings back nostalgic memories but also shows the flaws now that I’m an adult. Still I enjoyed both.

I watched the F13 series on the Sci-Fi Channel back in the day but have seen very few Freddy's Nightmares episode. The latter is very hit and miss, with some good episodes but some are real stinkbombs. The F13 series was actually pretty good despite having nothing to do with the films. It was genuinely pretty frightening much of the time.

I agree FT13 is the superior series. I still don’t know why it was canceled out of nowhere. Freddys Nightmares has some interesting directors Tobe Hooper, William Malone, Mick Garris, Tom Desimone, etc

The F13 series actually did really well with the ratings but it was cancelled due to backlash from religious groups when it played in the Bible Belt during afternoon hours where kids could see it. Sucks it got cancelled over something stupid like that.

Very True. I think people said the same thing about Freddy’s Nightmares since it was syndicated and could play anytime. People called it “filth” since they did push the boundaries and according to directors were left alone do they could push the envelope

Looking at the footage from Freddy's Nightmares it got surprisingly pretty graphic and definitely much more than you'd expect for something shown on a non-pay channel. It's violence and gore levels are comparable with American Horror Story which gets extremely violent and graphic much of the time.

Yeah it was pretty graphic. One of my favorite episodes is Photo Finish in a season 2. A lot of kills, one women gets her eyes gouged out, and You see a family murdered

I've been wanting to watch more of the show but episodes are hard to find uploaded online. Wish it'd get a complete series release already.

It's briefly covered in the excellent Never Sleep Again documentary, which covers the ANOES series.
