Re-Animator is another one that they don’t make anymore. Horror with great special effects and with dark humor thrown in

Re-Animator to me very much feels like a precursor to HBO's TFTC and like a film that was used as a template for it. Horror that's gruesome and twisted, but still has a sense of fun to it.

Agreed. I forgot who made the thread about films that are like TFTC episodes but Re-Animator fits that bill

That was me actually, I started it on the main TFTC board. Re-Animator very much feels like TFTC and like all it needs is the Crypt Keeper to bookend it. I wonder if Stuart Gordon (the director) was a fan of EC Horror comics as a kid? Not unfathomable to think he may have been and had that in mind when he made Re-Animator.

Oh good on you then 😃. It’s crazy how movies like that from the 80’s and the 90’s can never be made today. The gore/ practical effects horror/dark comedy films to the action films with little to no cgi. Thankfully it’s much easier to go back and see those films now but it’s sad that we won’t be seeing those type of films being made again

At least we've got productions like the Creepshow TV show on Shudder that really seems to be pushing for practical effects.

To be honest I have t watched it. Even the shows of today do t excite me like the ones from the back in the day like TFTC

The Creepshow TV show is definitely well worth a watch. Very much harkens back to TFTC as well as the original 1982 film. I love how they employ so many old-school effects and how the CGI use is kept to a very bare minimum.

The first season is already on Blu-ray and Season 2 is hitting the format on December 7th.

Last night I watched Psycho again and it’s amazing how much of a masterpiece it is. I don’t really consider it horror it’s more of a psychological thriller but still nothing in the horror/thriller genre can touch it IMO

I'll see it, someday. There's actually quite a few notable Horror films I've yet to see, The Omen being another.

Yeah I like the Omen but don’t love it. I’ve seen it several times and enjoy it but not the same way I feel about Psycho, Night if the Hunter, or the Exorcist
