I wonder if not for the backlash against R-rated films and material being marketed to children and teens back then, if this is a trend that would've continued well into the new millennium. Would we have seen more R-rated films with merchandise and even things like animated series aimed at kids?
It's too bad about the state of Star Wars. I loved Rogue One and it became my new favorite, but it seems that was a fluke from the Disney-era of Star Wars. Solo was fine, but while I liked The Force Awakens it ultimately just felt like a re-telling of A New Hope and didn't really bring anything new to the table. TLJ... the more I think about it, the more I can't figure out what it was trying to be.

The merchandise and anything else from R rated films and properties should've AND SHOULD stay within their targeted audiences (older teens and adults). Yeah. It's a shame that Star Wars is pretty much dead now. All because Disney got WAY TOO DAMN GREEDY and DIDN'T RESPECT THE HISTORY AND LEGACY of the franchise. And that ESPECIALLY goes for the way Disney has treated the fanbase. All they had to do was to show respect and focus on making good Star Wars movies.

Goes without saying the same is applicable to television shows that are made with adult audiences in mind should remain geared at that demographic, even if I did like the TFTC animated series (which in many ways is way better than it had any right to be given how explicit it's live-action big brother is).
If The Rise Of Skywalker is a failure then it renders the sequel trilogy moot and pointless. Going by the trailers, I honestly don't even see the point of bringing back who they are.

They'd be FOOLISH if they tried something like that again nowadays. I think that The Rise of Skywalker will make money but NOT A WHOLE LOT. At this point, so many people, fans and casual moviegoers alike, have tapped out due to all of the unnecessary drama and BS that's occurred surrounding this franchise.

I think these days there'd be too much of a backlash. Without getting political, I think the current political situation would definitely not allow it.
I think TROS' success can go either way at this point. But I've gotten a sense of apathy lately towards Star Wars and I think it's just so much of the general public and even much of the fanbase being burned out on it and the wounds from TLJ still having no healed for many.

You're about how many people, whether they're Star Wars fans or not, are now just burned out from the franchise now. I've also had seen a lot of apathy from many. Even I have gotten apathetic and don't even really give a crap about what happens in the next film. The immense damage done to this once great franchise by Disney and Lucasfilm is unprecedented and almost unreal when you think about it. It's like the whole situation didn't have to happen and it could've been avoided.

If TROS turns out terrible then it makes the whole sequel trilogy for nought and an empty nostalgia cash grab, which is very unfortunate.

Judging by the possible plot leaks from TROS, it doesn't sound too good and already, many people don't even care to see the film. Even Star Wars fans are already saying that the whole sequel trilogy was for nothing. I've seen so many YouTube videos of people stating how disappointed they are with the way the Star Wars franchise is being treated.

Sad to see a once mighty property like Star Wars sink so badly. It's all the more unfortunate for me as Rogue One was amazing and became my new favorite SW film, but in hindsight I wonder if it was just a fluke. Maybe Disney should've concentrated more on spin-off films rather than a sequel trilogy, which when you think about it wasn't really needed after the closure of Return Of The Jedi. Some fans take issue with ROTJ, but I think it can universally be agreed upon it at least ended the original saga on a high note.

The sequel trilogy and even the spin-offs, in my opinion, had ultimately proven to be unnecessary due to how HORRIBLE they ended up being in terms of quality. It's a shame.

I think Rogue One was excellent and Solo was pretty good. IMO, Disney should've concentrated on doing spin-off films instead of an unneeded sequel trilogy that undid the closure of ROTJ. I liked The Force Awakens well enough but at the end of the day it was a blatant nostalgia fest as opposed to something that truly progressed the series.

As I do with your's If TROS is a failure then this spells very grim news for the future of Star Wars. So unfortunate to see a once mighty name like that crumble.

And that's a shame that it has basically come down to this. Star Wars used to be phenomenal and special. But thanks to its creator's one HUGE MISTAKE in selling it off to a DEMONIC corporation, it's BASICALLY DESTROYED BEYOND RECOGNITION.

The kind of damage TLJ did to the series for so many fans is unfortunately not just something that can be healed or forgotten overnight. Especially with how sacred Star Wars is to so many fans.
