The original Police Academy's R-rating is definitely deserved. I would've never looked at that film and imagine it spawning PG-13 and PG sequels, a cartoon series and toyline. Just bizarre. INDEED! ^

It reminds me of the sadly short-lived Maxx FX toyline. There's this fascinating website that details the toyline and how the controversy over the talking Freddy Krueger doll led to it's demise and the cancellation of other planned Horror toys. Such a shame.

Such a shame. Wow! That website is fascinating. I'm going to read through it. Btw, sorry for kind of going off-topic, but as I've said before, if they were to still be making toys for children from R rated properties, I mentioned John Wick, Deadpool, and It/Pennywise. Well now, why not also add Arthur Fleck/Joker.

Thankfully I think we'll now see Joker aimed more for mature audiences which is how he should've been all this time. It's easy to forget what an incredibly vile and brutal killer he is in the comics.

I'd sure like to think the massive success will have studio execs and producers thinking of what other characters could benefit from an R-rated treatment.

Definitely. It goes without saying R-rated film series should always remain R-rated and never downgrade under any circumstances.

And since Joker is killing it at the box office with almost $800 million WORLDWIDE, I bet that Hollyweird will probably think twice before they try some dumb bullshit like downgrading R rated movies. Many people are tired of that.

I wouldn't hold my breath but maybe Joker's success will result in Venom 2 getting the R-rating it both deserves and needs, especially with Carnage. There's just no way Carnage can be done in a family-friendly manner.

There's just no way Carnage can be done in a family-friendly manner. I'm not holding my breath. They had their chance the first time and pussied out. Even if they do make the Venom sequel rated R, it's kind of too late because Sony has proven that they can't be trusted and are money hungry. And yes, there's no way that Carnage can be done within the confines of a PG-13 rating. That's ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and JUST ASKING FOR TROUBLE AND FAILURE! But hey, it's Sony. They've been known to often disappoint.

Unfortunately it seems like the R-rated/unrated cut of Venom will never see release which is a real shame. Watching the film it's obvious it was heavily edited down to a PG-13.

I've made peace with the fact that there will be no R rated cut of Venom and at this point, it doesn't matter. As I've said before, Sony had their chance to make the film rated R and the backed out at the last minute in favor of appealing to children and for money. Also, I had seen some of the scenes from the movie through a recent Nostalgia Critic video talking about the film and it looks kind of lame to me. There was something about the way a lot of the scenes looked and came across that was cringeworthy. Especially that voraciously eating a crab in a water tank scene. Gosh. I saw some scenes where Venom would bite some guy's head and there was no blood or gore. That further cement our arguments that the film should've been rated R. Even Nostalgia Critic admitted that the film was watered down and should've been R.

It even feels like a film where they did reshoots to make it less violent and tone down the violence.
