Joker's already crossed a billion now, I'm beyond happy for the success. I know! I'm extremely elated!!! It also had already passed Alladin and Captain Marvel worldwide.

Btw, I just heard that the filmmakers behind the Venom sequel are planning on making it R rated since Joker's success had proven to be possible. Too little, too late, imo.

Well if they are indeed going for that then good for them, but as you said, unfortunately i's a case of too little, too late. Even with an R-rating, the original Venom just felt too far removed from the source material. I get adaptations will always differ in some capacity but Venom was too much so, IMO.
Here's a good video on the short-lived Maxx FX toyline from the late 80s that covers their Freddy figure.

Sure. There's lots of other cool videos on that channel as well, it's actually quite addicting.

Definitely give them a look.
The talk of R-rated and mature properties getting merchandise and whatnot aimed at kids reminds me of how Mortal Kombat of all things got marketed to kids back in the 90s. The games were infamous and controversial for their gory violence and yet somehow that didn't stop MK from not only getting two PG-13 live-action films, an animated series and a toyline (in itself asinine), but also of all things... a travelling live-action show. I kid you not.
Even as a kid, I thought it was ridiculous to see MK dumbed down so much, just because the games were popular with kids and yet the studios probably felt they needed to make it more family-friendly. As a kid I always thought it was stupid how the movie was PG-13 and did away with the gruesome violence of the games. Here's to hoping the 2021 reboot rights this wrong and does MK justice. It deserves a good, worthy film and not something that's neutered for the masses.

It deserves a good, worthy film and not something that's neutered for the masses. I actually like the video. Thank you for sharing it. But you're absolutely right. The fact that they dumbed down Mortal Kombat in the 90s like that is INSANE and TERRIBLE. It was not intended for children in the first place. If the children happen to like the games, depending on the type of parents involved, they should proceed with caution. BUT DON'T WATER DOWN THE PROPERTY. TOO MANY TIMES, PROPERTIES AIMED AT ADULTS HAVE BEEN TONED OR WATERED DOWN TO MAKE PARENTS HAPPY AND TO BE KID-FRIENDLY WHEN OFTEN TIMES, IT WOULD BACKFIRE. Yes, I also hope that the 2021 reboot is genuinely good in quality and doesn't hold back any punches (pun intended) in terms of its content.

Sure.
I hope the 2021 reboot is faithful to the games, not just with the gore but also the dark, eerie, otherworldly and mystical feel the original games had, which was completely absent from the two 90s movies. Just because a film is based off of a video game doesn't mean you treat with with any less respect. MK deserves a good, proper live-action film that pays proper respect and I hope come 2021 we get just that. I also hope they don't go the route of digital gore which would be awful. CGI gore has got to go, save it for the special effects where it's truly needed, not for something that should be practical like gore.

CGI gore has got to go, save it for the special effects where it's truly needed, not for something that should be practical like gore. That's right. Even though I haven't seen any of the previous MK films, I have seen clips of them online and even I could tell that the otherworldly and mystical feel of the original games is nonexistent. Hopefully, they can achieve this in the new film. You would think that they would nail the tone in the last films but they didn't. I hope that they somehow pull it off in the new film. And yes, enough with the CGI gore for crying out loud. Unless they need to insert that in certain areas, they shouldn't be overusing CGI gore. They must bring back the special effects gore to make it more realistic and raw. Also, since we're now in the 2020s, it's time for Hollyweird to stop being so damn scared of making more interesting and good R rated blockbusters like they used to. Joker has shown that R rated films CAN be extremely successful with good directing and good acting and that they don't need to compromise the rating to make money. Hell, the Deadpool and It movies have also shown that the R rating can be extremely profitable. The rating is probably even more profitable than it's ever been.

You're not really missing anything by not seeing either 1990s MK movie. A lot of people like the 1995 movie but even as a kid I never cared for it, seeing that it just didn't have the otherworldly feel of the games and did away with the graphic violence. The sequel is one of the legit worst movies ever made and I didn't even finish watching it, that's how awful it was. I was maybe 14 or 15 when I caught it on TV? Even at that age I knew I was watching something beyond dreadful.
The original MK games at times evoked a Horror-like mood with the weirdness and creepiness of the stage designs and the ambience they gave off, which the music was also a crucial element of. Tackling the next MK film as something of a Martial Arts Horror film would be a smart way to go about it. It'd be unique too as a Martial Arts/Horror hybrid isn't a film mash-up you see that often and yet it'd work so well for MK.
There's no excuse whatsoever for a film adaptation of a mature property to not be R-rated. Just because something is popular with kids doesn't mean it should be dumbed down for them, which actually insults their intelligence when it's done. The movies you mentioned all showed just how profitable and popular R-rated films can be. Time for a proper MK film adaptation to be apart of that list.

While I'm very happy to hear the reboot will be R-rated, I'm worried it'll use digital gore, which I'll be so mad if they do. Save CGI for when it's needed, and it's never needed with gore.

Brand New Aliens Toyline Aimed At Kids. I didn't think this was a thing anymore but it seems there's a brand new Aliens toyline available at Wal-Mart, and it's aimed at kids. They're honestly kind of cool, if obviously nowhere near the work NECA has done. I wonder if this means we'll see more toylines based off of R-rated films aimed at kids again.

I had to click on the link you provided and I can't believe my eyes. I thought that what I was reading was something straight from the 1980s. But no. No. It's from this year! THIS YEAR!!! The year 2020! Not 1980. Not 1990. Or not even 2000! The year 2020!!! And it's not made by Kennar. It's made by another brand that's giving off the vibe of Kennar. Wow! That's crazy!!!! Maybe it's one of those things that we thought was gone for good but somehow returned when we had least expected it. So, do you think this type of thing is slowly but surely coming back? Unless I'm wrong, I would imagine that Lanard, the brand making these toys, would market popular current R rated films like the John Wick and It movies to younger viewers.
