I know a lot of Horror directors from that era were very heavily influenced by the EC Comics. I know both John Carpenter and George A. Romero grew up being EC fans.

They were both featured in that EC Comics documentary talking about how the comics has influenced them and how they owe a lot to the comics.

I remember that. The EC influence is especially prominent and obvious in Creepshow.

That's very fitting. It'a shame George Romero (R.I.P.) never got to do an episode of TFTC, I'm sure he would've made a great episode or two back then.

It's surprising and unfortunate a lot of big-name Horror directors like Romero along with John Carpenter, Wes Craven, etc. never directed episodes back then. Really a shame, as they would've been an ideal fit.

It's on my to see-list for sure.
It would've been awesome for a special season of TFTC to have episodes directed by the top Horror directors at the time. Really unfortunately that never happened and sadly never will now that some prominent Horror directors have sadly since passed on.

That would be so awesome if they did that! Such missed opportunities.

I wonder if it was ever planned at some point? It would've been a good way to revitalize TFTC a bit had it made it to Season 8, after how lackluster Season 7 mostly was.

Between S7 being poorly received and TFTC's popularity have waned a lot by the later 90s, plus Bordello Of Blood being a massive flop and Perversions Of Science essentially being a replacement for TFTC, it sadly wasn't to be. I think such a season could've done a lot to salvage the show.

If they were to bring back the show now and do it right, they would probably do a semi-reboot by using Crypty and use stories from the original EC Comics that haven't been told in the HBO show.

There's still a lot of stories from the comics that never got adapted they could use, and even adapt some stories from the animated series albeit much more mature.
