It'd be a lot easier nowadays thanks to cameraphones.

Yeah but honestly it’s not the same thing. It’s something pure and nostalgic about the old vhs camcorders.

VHS makes me nostalgic for sure. I'm too spoiled by HD viewing to ever revert back to it, but I always get a nostalgic rush when I'm in a place that sells VHS tapes and seeing the rows of them. It especially takes me back to the days of video stores and browsing the Horror section.

I miss the video stores. Not sure if I mentioned it here but growing up my local video store was practically a couple blocks away from me right next to my favorite pizzeria/Italian restaurant. It was great going there in a Friday and like you said browsing through the VHS covers for all genres. Then I would get some popcorn/snacks from there then go next door to get my pizza and broccoli rabe and I was set 😂. Yes HD looks great and streaming is easier but Nothing beats the video store experience

Back in the day it felt like a rite of passage to brave the Horror section and see if you could bring yourself to look at the scary-looking VHS cover arts. Moreso with the local stores as opposed to major chains like Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.

Yeah I had a blockbuster pretty close to me and even though it was a much bigger store I still felt my local store had better stuff especially obscure titles at the time. That’s another thing. Back then it could take months to find a specific title which could be frustrating yet a great challenge. Nowadays it takes two seconds to find any movie which takes the fun out of it

I remember the local or non-chain video stores usually always had some obscure or lesser-known genre movies in addition to the typical mainstream fare at the time, so you always had a nice balance.

Where I live I don't think there's any more video rental places around, sadly. I recall around 2007/2008 is when so many of them started closing down.

Yeah 2007 is around the time it closed. Blockbuster lasted a couple more years I think

Where I live there was a Hollywood Video that was around for a while before closing down. It was sad to see it close down and see it empty and unoccupied every time I passed by it.

Yeah it’s sad to see that. Where I lived there used to be a Ground Round where my family I went all the time(holidays, birthdays, etc). It closed in 2003 and became Boulder Creek Steakhouse. However that closed a few years later and now for over a decade it’s just been sitting there abandoned, fenced in, overgrown with trees and vines all over it. I pass by it sometimes and it’s eerie remembering my childhood and seeing it an abandoned building now

It's sad to pass by a place that's now empty that years ago used to be a place you loved to visit and shop at. There was a comic shop here that closed down back in 2014 and I always loved going there. Was a sad and dark day for me when I saw they closed shop.

Yeah. Going through my home movies I’ve started remembering things pretty vividly. I found my 5th birthday in 1988 that took place at the Ground Round. They used to give you popcorn or peanuts before you ate and would even play movies off a projector. Great Times

Sounds awesome. It's hard not to long for those simpler times.
