Absolutely. I use the Saturday night movie on vhs(remember those 😂) then going to church to serve mass when I was a altar boy and coming back to watch it. It’s funny because they showed a lot of cult films like The Wraith, Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, etc

Whoever ran that station back then must've been a big Horror fan. They always had Horror on heavy rotation every other weekend.

Yeah I remember one particular weekend they played all the Jaws films. Even though the 3rd and 4th are awful it was still great to watch them all consecutively. I remember they played King Kong a few times. But the Wraith they played at least once a year in that particular time slot from maybe 1990-95 that i recall

Someone at that station must've been a fan of this film with how much it was in rotation back then.

Could be. Nowadays it’s possible to find pretty much any film but back then the only way was if they were to play it or you were able to find a decent vhs tape. Luckily the Wraith like you says played a lot on that station

It's a surprise I never caught it back then when it was in rotation. Cable and VHS really gave a new lease on life to a lot of movies like it that bombed theatrically and would've otherwise faded into obscurity.

They usually played it once a year tyat I remember and I always happened to catch it on tv. I used to tape stuff and my patents taped a lot of stuff but ironically enough I never recorded the Wraith. I eventually bought the VHS of it.

I remember very well how WPIX had a different Horror film every night in October as part of their Shocktober schedule. Caught many greats back then on there.

Yeah The Hidden was another one I remember them playing. They played the Jaws films and King Kong by lot. Of Course who could forget Clash of the Titans. I’m telling you they played The Wraith and Clash of the Titans more than anything 😂

The Gate was another I remember they frequently showed. A favorite of mine and one I still enjoy watching.

I found an old promo of the Wraith from a vhs I had converted not too long ago. Brings back memories of the 5 o’clock movie they would play if channel 11 in NY on Saturday nights. A lot if times I would have to go to church so I would tape it, grab something from the pizzeria and come home and watch it. Funny enough I had to retake the Wraith a few times because my older sister would accidentally tape over it or the vhs tape wouldn’t record for whatever reason. Sigh the days before streaming or DVR I miss them lol

Was that the promo that aired on WPIX way back in the 90s?

I remember seeing that as well. WPIX back in the 90s showed tons of Horror films. Someone at that station back then was obviously a fan.

Yeah I miss those. They used to also do movies of the week on network tv back then. Mainly dramas but sometimes they would make horror/sci-fi tv films as well
