This quickly became one of my new favorite films after seeing it for the first time last Summer, and a film I wished I'd seen much sooner. I'd known of it all my life but never had a means of seeing it until last year when it hit Blu-ray. The plot concerns a mysterious black armor-clad assailant in a seemingly indestructible Turbo Interceptor who's hunting down gang members in a small Arizona town and kills them off in street races. It's a highly entertaining film and very much feels like a live-action superhero Horror comic book, like if EC Comics had done their own take on a superhero story but still kept it Horror-oriented.
It's often been compared to The Crow which it shares many similarities with, and seeing as it saw release before The Crow graphic novel was even released it's not unreasonable to think the film may have been something of an influence. The titular Wraith is an awesome character and is basically like The Crow, RoboCop and Mad Max all fused into one character. The Turbo Interceptor he employs is a character in it's own right. Being an 80s film and the pinnacle of in-camera special effects work, the stunts and car races are all done for real and it gives the movie so much more impact than the CGIfests you see nowadays. It's a shame the film didn't do better back when it came out but like many other cult films found it's audience and fanbase after the fact. I'm happy to own the Blu-ray which I highly recommend with it's excellent image and sound quality as well as it's plentiful special features.
Also worth noting it has an amazing soundtrack, with my favorite song on it being Tim Feehan's Where's The Fire. It even had a music video with some footage from the film.
