I remember those movies of the week. You had a good reason for being a couch potato back then with the programming that was regularly shown, especially on weekends.

Yeah it was the days before cable shows took off and the big tv shows were still owned by network tv and tv films. Then HBO got into television shows and basically took over plus they started making tv films/miniseries with feature film sized budgets which pretty much killed the movies of the week which were much smaller in scale and budget

WPIX's promo for The Wraith always stood out to me, even though it was years before I finally saw the film, the promo always stuck with me. Many weekends back in the day were spent watching WPIX and the Horror films they often showed.

Yeah I have fond memories of those promise or even them Just showing the WPIX Saturday Night Movie logo. Nowadays you can pretty much find anything on steam but back then films like the Wraith you had to watch whenever it aired on tv. Honestly I don’t even think my local video store carried a vhs copy. I did buy a vhs copy in the late 90’s thought but it was expensive lol

I remember how expensive VHS tapes were back then. Wouldn't they sometimes be as much as $95? Crazy. That was a big reason video stores existed, so people could rent since many couldn't afford to buy very many back then.

Some were. I do remember as a kid my grandfather buying me the Batman(1989) vhs tape for like 80 bucks m. Nowadays you can get 3 Criterion Collection Blu-ray’s for that price

I always got to remind myself of how insanely pricey VHS tapes were back then whenever I complain about a Blu-ray or 4K title being too expensive.

Yeah true. Back then vhs didn’t have a whole lot of competition so they could be pricey. Obviously the fats before streaming, Blu-ray’s, or even dvd’s. Heck I could remember in the mid 90’s having to pay about if money and order from around the country for certain movies on VHS because that was the only place they were available

I remember how incredibly expensive DVDs and the players were back then. A DVD (totally barebones with just a modest transfer) went for as much as $50 and the players could easily be as much as $500 or more. Thankfully Blu-ray and 4K discs and their players aren't nearly as pricey.

I do remember the Wraith vhs being fairly cheap when I bought it. Granted it wasn’t a big time movie but it had started to become a cult film by that point

I don't believe I ever found the VHS or DVD anywhere. Though it's possible it could've been in the Horror or Sc-Fi sections of some video stores I'd gone to back in the day.

Yeah it was very hard to find. I only found it at Suncoast which usually had a nice range of movies even lesser known ones. Problem is that store was very expensive.

I remember Suncoast fondly. Got a lot of genre films on VHS and DVD from there back in the day. They were pricey but occasionally had good deals and sales. I remember one time getting the Army Of Darkness Boomstick Edition DVD for a mere $10 which my Suncoast standards may as well have been for free.

Yeah the prices got better with time. I remember they had a whole Clint Eastwood collection that I would periodically go in and buy. I also remembering getting Blue Thunder(1983) for a good price there one of my favorite action films growing up

I remember they carried a bunch of movie merchandise as well, especially Horror. I remember they had a ton of the Puppet Master action figures, which I wish I'd gotten back then as they now go for a lot these days.
